About the Jarvis Board of Trade
History of the JBOT
The JBOT was established in 1929 by a group of Jarvis and area business owners and citizens who were interested in the development and progress of the village. The focus of the group was to encourage the growth and development of the area, and to attract and maintain a variety of businesses to serve the community.
Over the years, our town has had its challenges but has enjoyed growth spurts and sustainability. Today Jarvis, which is the west entrance to Haldimand County, is home to many newcomers who have departed other urban areas for a quieter place to live that offers great amenities for families.
The role and goals of the Board of Trade have evolved over the years and today we work to make Jarvis a great place to live, work and play. We encourage our Residents to enjoy the friendliness and opportunities available in our town and to support our local businesses. If you are interested in the well-being of our community, you are welcome to join the Jarvis Board of Trade.

About the Town of Jarvis
Nestled at the intersection of highways #3 and #6, Jarvis owes its origins to blacksmith, James Shearman, who was contracted to hammer out nails for the unique plank road between Hamilton and Port Dover.
Originally called “Shearman’s Corners”, the village was later named Jarvis in honour of William Jarvis, Secretary of State for Upper Canada, and the absentee owner, through a grant, of much of the surrounding land.
Incorporated in 1909, Jarvis today lies in a primarily agricultural area, amidst a blending of the past and the present. Small businesses, family-oriented community activities and friendly people combine to make this small town at the Crossroads of 3 & 6 a diversified and pleasant place to live, work, play and visit.
